Mission
At Al-Firdaus Mosque, we want to:
Be a hub for the acquisition of Islamic knowledge

Build a gracious & dynamic Muslim community

Al-Firdaus Mosque was established in 1962 by Malay Muslim soldiers stationed at Tengah Air Base, steps from the mosque.
The soldiers, with villagers from Kampong Beseri, Ara and Lamsan build a wooden structure. The mosque was named Al-Firdaus by Syed Mohammed bin Salim Al Attas, or Habib Ba’Alwie.
The mosque was declared open by the late Haji Yakob bin Mohammed the then Member of Parliament for Bukit Panjang. The small lane the building stood on was also named Jalan Ibadat by Habib Ba’Alwie. The management of the mosque was left to a trustee from Tengah Air Base, Mr P J Krishnan, who worked at the base.
At that time, the mosque only served as a place of worship. The only other activities held were Quran recitation lessons for children and Maulid and Isra’ Mi’raj events.
History

Everyone involved with the mosque had high hopes for the future but in 1968, when the British pulled out of Singapore and Tengah Air Base, the surrounding area became quiet.
Then in the 1980’s the villagers in the surrounding villages started to leave and construction on the Kranji Expressway (KJE) began. The mosque began to see less and less congregants. However, a small group of dedicated volunteers with the help of board members kept the mosque going for the congregants.
Since then the mosque underwent several minor changes and some physical and infrastructural improvements have been made over the years, most notably in the late 90s.
At the end of 2021, more improvements were made to the prayer and office spaces to make the mosque a more comfortable and conducive place to perform prayers, conduct religious activities and work.
Today, while the demographic of its congregants has changed, Al-Firdaus Mosque still plays an important role in the area as a place where Muslims from all walks of life can congregate and worship.

Our Name
Jannatul Firdaus
Jannah, in Islam, is the paradise promised to Al-Mukminin (the Believers) in Qur’an. There are a lot of depictions about Jannah. Allah has described it in many beautiful ways and all of those descriptions paint a picture of an enchanting garden where every wish is granted.
We can say that Jannah is an unimaginably alluring garden, beauty of which cannot be described through our worldly languages. All pleasure in this world is somehow incomplete and tainted, whereas in Jannah all pleasures are complete, pure and abundant.
Allah SWT says in Qur’an:
“And no soul knows what is kept hidden for them, of joy as a reward for what they used to do.”
[Chapter 32, Verse 17]”

Jannah
Literally translated, Jannah or Jannat means garden, and Firdaus means paradise in Arabic. The word “Firdaus” may also be related to the source of the English word “Paradise”. There are many levels of Jannah and the highest of them all is the Jannatul Firdaus.
Prophet Muhammad once said:
“Paradise has one hundred grades, each of which is as big as the distance between heaven and earth. The highest of them is Firdaus and the best of them is Firdaus. The Throne is above Firdaus and from it spring forth the rivers of Paradise. If you ask of Allah (SWT), ask Him for Firdaus.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah]
Al Firdaus is closest to Allah SWT, so what can be better? The greatest gift a believer will be given once he/she reaches Jannah is finally seeing Allah. And what better place to finally see Him from?
Prophet Muhammad also once said:
“Al-Firdaus is the highest of Paradise and its most expansive, and above that is the Throne of Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful), and from it the rivers of Paradise are made to flow forth. So when you ask Allah (SWT), ask Him for Al-Firdaus.”
[At-Tirmidhi]
The Prophet Muhammad SAW described its beauty by mentioning that it’s the closest thing to Allah SWT, The Most Merciful. He is The Source of Mercy, who takes care of us and takes away all of our pain, removes our sufferings and discomfort. He knows how to take care of the ones who are under His Shade, how to protect them. Which makes Al-Firdaus the best of the best, with a promise of not only beautiful view or best seat but also security, peace and comfort.
